We arrived in Bighorn National Forest on Thursday. We went to our campsite in Doyle campground, where we stayed 8 years ago. Unfortunately, the site was not right for us. The host sent us to the other campground that she hosts at. Fortunately, Lost Cabin was perfeft for us!! And it got us off the two mile long gravel road!!!
On Friday, we went up to Sheep Mountain to see the fire tower and see about cell service. It was 73 degrees and beautiful. There was snow on the mountains in the distance. They have done a ton of work on the road.. it's now like a bulivard (LOL) compared to what it was 8 years ago.. Elevation 8, You can rent the fire tower for the night.. used to be $120 a night, not sure what it is now. Not for me!!
We came back to camp and enjoyed the woods and a fire while Gary cooked some venison sausage, our friend Clark gave us, over the charcoal grill. Then toward evening, we went for a ride back over by Doyle looking for some elk. We saw at least a half dozen mule deer- one big buck, a big jack rabbit, a herd of elk (which we needed the minocular to see), and a MOOSE cow!! She was beautiful on the horizon!! That was the absolute ultimate.
On Saturday, we got up and had our breakfast and headed to Crazy Woman Canyon. The neighbor at the campground said that a truckers GPS took him that way to Buffalo. It cost him thousands of dollars to get towed out.. First- CANYON??? What would that tell you???
They have worked on these roads too.. The canyon is just as beautiful as we remember. We ended up in Buffalo to get fuel. Taking the main highway back to camp. We'll be leaving here tomorrow morning. It's been a wonderful relaxing stay here in the National Forest. On to Lovell, WY!!
