Lovell road trip #2

Today, Monday, we drove HWY 14 from Lovell to Burgess Jct to Greybull, back to Lovell, 261 miles.  Tons of switchbacks and mountains!!  We drove to Medicine Wheel and walked the 3 mile round trip up to see it.  Along the way we saw some American Picas and Marmots.  Interesting facts about them.. the Picas don't hibernate but they go underground for 9 months so for the summer, they store up their food which is similar to hay.  They lay flowers and grass and stems on rocks and let them dry.  The marmots hibernate like black bears. They eat all summer and get big and fat. They are also called ground squirrels.

We saw three nice herds of elk and two moose and a ton of rocks and mountains..
